You Asked: What's Up With the Lauppe Lane Traffic Light?

Lauppe Lane and Antelope Road are undergoing construction with more plans to improve accessibility ahead.

After we ran a story on construction along Auburn Boulevard, one reader asked a question about the timing of a nearby traffic light.

The traffic light, at Lauppe Lane and Antelope Road, is part of the area currently under construction, said Regina Cave, Management Analyst II with the City of Citrus Heights.

City officials have been told that students jaywalk at that intersection, but once the construction efforts are complete, "they can safely cross from both sides," she said.

"There will be a crosswalk on the east side as well, along with the west-side crosswalk," Cave said.

She said there haven't been any issues or complaints about the timing of the lights.

There have been concerns, however, for those using the crosswalk, and accessibility from the north side of Antelope she said. But the city recently received a "Safe Routes to School" grant to do construction on the north side, which should happen within the next two years, Cave said.

"So there will be sidewalks on both sides of Antelope, between Lauppe Lane and Auburn Boulevard," she said.
