Kaiser Permanente volunteers spruce up Lichen K-8

About 35 volunteers from Kaiser Permanente pitched in to beautify Lichen School in Citrus Heights on Monday January 20, the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday.

Kaiser Permanente physicians and employees have a longstanding tradition of devoting the annual holiday for community service. Instead of being a “day off,” the volunteers consider the holiday a “day on” to improve the communities in and around their workplace.

At Lichen K-8, the volunteers prepped and painted metal picnic tables and benches, painted support boards for backpack hooks for 12 classrooms, painted numbers and dots on the school’s outdoor Physical Education play area, and cleaned and sanitized rooms.

Sacramento County Supervisor Roberta MacGlashan, Citrus Heights Vice Mayor Sue Frost, and San Juan Unified School District Board Vice President Pam Costa also were present.
