Just before 5 p.m., Metro Fire crews responded to a structure fire in the 7900 block of Sylvan Oak Lane in Citrus Heights.

Upon their arrival, they found the top two bedrooms well involved with fire, and immediately initiated an aggressive fire attack. Concerned that the residence may still be occupied, fire crews quickly conducted a primary and secondary search of the occupancy. Within minutes, crews located the seat of fire and were able to get it “knocked down.”

Twenty-four firefighters were actively engaged in fire attack, searching for victims, ventilation, salvage and overhaul operations; which lead to crews containing the fire to the top two bedrooms, with no extension into the adjacent living quarters or attic space. Firefighting efforts saved roughly $300,000 in property damage. Approximately $25,000 of damage occurred to the structure, and Red Cross was requested to provide assistance to the displaced family.

No firefighters or civilians were injured, and, according to fire officials, the cause of the fire is undetermined at this point.
