Sac International Airport Returning to Normal Following SFO Crash

On Saturday, two flights were cancelled.

Flight activity reportedly returned to normal this morning at Sacramento International Airport following the rush of diverted planes to the airport over the weekend, according to airport officials.

On Saturday, two United Airlines flights out of Sacramento to San Francisco were cancelled at the airport due to the morning Asiana Airlines plane crash, according to Philip Benedetto, airport spokesperson.

Sunday, four commercial airplanes were still being diverted to the airport to refuel because they couldn't land at San Francisco International Airport, reported Benedetto.

The influx of unscheduled arrivals topped 16 on Sunday following the crash at SFO, he said.

Asiana Arilines Flight 214 from Seoul to San Francisco, crashed at about 11:28 a.m. while landing at SFO, reported federal aviation officials over the weekend.

Today, the Sacramento airport is not expecting additional unscheduled flight arrivals, said Benedetto.

“We don’t expect any (diverted) planes to come in,” he said. “But we area always prepared just in case there are any diversions.”

Travelers to San Francisco impacted Sunday flew on airlines ranging from American, Delta and United airlines as well as Scandinavian Air, Benedetto said.

Some travelers reportedly chose to wait for new flights to return to SFO. While others took buses back to the airport.
